Review of MBT Men's Kisumu Sandal

Updated Review:

I was a bit hasty in my previous review. It turns out that due to some confusion between Amazon's ordering system and the seller's system what I received was actually a woman's US size 9.Shoemania quickly and politely corrected the problem, emailing me a prepaid return label and sent off another in the correct size.Though they forgot to honor the 2-day shipping agreement they promptly credited me the price difference.I've had a few weeks to try these sandals now and I like them very much.I bought them to replace my beloved Mephistos which I had for years and had worn threadbare.I'm diabetic and have problems wearing most other tighter fitting shoes so sandals tend to be my footwear of choice.

These sandals do take some getting use to - they're a lot like walking on cushy rockers. This makes it more comfortable to walk as the sandals rock forward with you in natural walking motion. It is possible, however, to accidentally rock backwards far enough to fall backwards, so some care is necessary. They are comfortable enough to wear all day and on extended walking tours. One nit is that the strap that goes across the instep tends to push into your foot causing a little discomfort. This is unavoidable as a result of the walking/rocking motion that is the point of the design.Another nit is that the clips that secure the straps are a bit small and they're a little difficult to maneuver.Overall, though, they are an excellent product - well made. They still don't beat my beloved Mephistos, but they are 2/3 the price and a fine replacement.

Previous Review:

I wish I could comment on this sandal for its comfort and ergonomic design, but I am unable to squeeze into this very expensive miniature to be able to tell. When I opened the box I immediately noticed the size problem and checked the markings on the heel strap - European size 40 1/3, US size 9.5.Puzzled, as the sandals are significantly smaller than my other size 9.5 shoes, I took them to my friend at Nordstrom who measured them with his spiffy meter.European size 38.5 / US size 8.That seems more like it.Why such a significant difference?Have they no quality control? For as expensive as these sandals were I expect much better.
